Collector's Digest: May Edition 2
This week in Pokémon: Must-Have Card Insights!
Hello Collector,
Welcome to this week’s edition of Collector’s Digest! Whether you're a collector, trader, or investor, here’s what’s happening in the Pokémon TCG world:

📊 Top Market Winners and Losers
Charizard ex - 199/165 - SV: Scarlet & Violet 151

📉 Current Price: ~$195 (Raw) [Down ~33% or ~$100 past 3 month]
💡 Analysis: The Top card in Scarlet and Violet 151 is equal to it’s lowest point in the last 6 months. The question is will this keep going down with rumors of reprints still happening or will get start going back up. Over the weekend alone TCG Player sold over 100 copies at this still high price. (Probably due to their cashback event)
Vivid Voltage Booster Box - SWSH04: Vivid Voltage

Current Price: ~$200 (Sealed) [Up ~50% or $65 the past year]

🔥 Analysis: Vivid Voltage is one of my favorite sets from Sword and Shield. To see it go up in price does shock me still. There is only one card that is above $20 in this set and that is the card below. Rainbow Fat Pikachu. Everything else is $15 or under. With the raise in price of booster box some cards in the set might follow such as the Full Art Pikachu.
Pikachu VMAX (Secret) - SWSH04: Vivid Voltage

🤑 Current Price: ~$150 (Raw) [Down ~33% or ~$12 past 3 month
Analysis: This is where we will get into a little bit of the fine detail. The Sealed booster box of vivid voltage has continue to go up but the cards in the set have not been. This is not super unusual for sealed products to outpace singles. The over all demand for cards in Vivid Voltage is not high.

Top 12 Vivid Voltage Cards
Here you can see the top 12 cards in vivid voltage and over half of them are Rainbow Rares. Which is known for not being super popular with collectors and have almost entirely not seen in current release. This could make these possible a great time to buy these since vivid voltage is going up in price and these top cards are not in super high demand at the moment. I have always thought that rainbow rare cards will eventually go for more due to them being one of the hardest cards to pull when in sets. Do you think you will pick up vivid voltage cards or just rainbow rares. I have some from sun and moon era and they have steadily increase over the years.

🎉 Pokémon News You Need to Know

📦 Upcoming Release: Scarlet & Violet – Destined Rivals (May 30, 2025)
Pre-release events, offering early access via Build & Battle boxes and tournaments, will be held between May 17 and May 25
The highly anticipated expansion, Scarlet & Violet – Destined Rivals, is set to release on May 30, 2025. This set combines two Japanese sets: The Glory of Team Rocket and Hot Wind Arena. It features Team Rocket admins from the video games—Archer, Ariana, Petrel, and Proton—along with their leader Giovanni. Notably, iconic anime duo Jessie and James are absent from this set. Given the ongoing scarcity of Pokémon cards at retail prices, fans are advised to either shop early on release day or purchase individual cards from local stores.
CARDS TO WATCH FROM DESTINED RIVALS
Current cards below are the most expensive/sough after cards in Japanese Version at the moment. Prices could change and which ones are the most expensive could change so I won’t be listing prices.
